STAR WARS THE FORCE AWAKENS TRAILER BREAKDOWN

Hey hey lovely people

So, the final trailer for Star Wars The Force Awakens just dropped tonight after Monday night football.

For an non-sporty Brit like me, sitting through half an hour of American Football on a poor live stream wasn't the most exciting moment of my life, but oh SO WORTH IT to see the new Star Wars trailer live (And yes, I did cry).

Now, a lot of information was packed into this this trailer, so let's dive right into it, scene by scene:

So the trailer starts with Rey in her scavenger attire, opening into some piece of machinery, most
likely looking for something to sell.

If I were to take a guess, I'd say she's looting from the crashed star destroyer on Jakku that we saw in the previous trailer.

It's obvious that Rey doesn't have an easy life, but what I thought was really thought provoking was a comment by Maude Garrett of SourceFed, who said that she's living the life Anakin should have, in that they both had hard beginnings, but Anakin turned to the dark side.

Could there be a parallel in this, with Rey being a descendant of Anakin?

A womanly voice sounds in saying 'Who are you?', which is most likely Maz Kanata, a pirate character played by Lupita Nyong'o.

Rey replies with 'I'm no one'. Parallels to Luke in A New Hope?!

The next scene cuts to some space craft that looks like a star destroyer in the skies above Jakku, with Rey staring out at it. Again, could this be the Star Destroyer that crashes on Jakku?

After cutting to the same first order scene from the previous trailers, we then see a TIE fighter crashing, and most likely landing on the planet below. Anyone getting R2D2 and C3PO vibes from the start of A New Hope?!

We then see a dazed and confused Finn stumbling onto the scene. Considering he's on a desert planet in a jumper, carrying a coat, I'm gonna guess that he wasn't expecting to be there.

Putting two and two together, I think he was in the damaged TIE fighter that landed on Jakku.

Meanwhile, in the background, we have a voice over of Finn saying 'I was raised to do one thing. I've got nothing to fight for'. Perhaps his reasoning for leaving behind his life as a stormtrooper for the First Order?

The video cuts to a scene on what looks to be Kylo Ren on the deck of a Star Destoyer, looking out into space, probably at the Starkiller Base, with him saying 'Nothing will stand in our way'.

After seeing the Starkiller Base on the newly released poster, we can assume that he's bragging about it's power. After all, it's practically a death star, with the exception that it's an actual planet.

Now, if you listen closely during this scene, you can hear the masked Kylo Ren breathing in a similar style to Darth Vader, which becomes even more poignant when he says 'I will finish what you started'.

It's pretty clear that Kylo Ren is aiming to be the second Vader, but what I wanna know is his back story. What spurred him on to follow in Vader's footsteps.

It then cuts to Poe Dameron being interrogated by Kylo Ren after being captured, which you can work out from piecing scenes from the previous trailers.

Now, think back to Kylo saying 'Nothing will stand in our way', because we now see an entire forest wiped out in seconds. Looks like the Starkiller Base actually used it's weaponry a la Alderaan in ANH.

Considering it was a forest that was wiped out, my guess is it's the forest planet from the trailer.

We then go to the scene where the Millennium Falcon is being chased by TIE fighters (Including Captain Phasma), but from a new perspective. This scene has been in all the trailers, but to get different perspectives must mean it's significant.

Inside the Falcon, Rey asks out to Han 'There were stories about what happened'.

To which he replies 'It's true. All of it'.

What's true? Are you telling me that after only 30 years, there's questioning over the legitimacy of Jedi's and Sith's?

Further on, he adds 'The dark side, the Jedi, they're real', pretty much confirming that there are hesitations over the legitimacy of both post battle of Endor.

The Falcon then goes at light speed, obviously meaning that they've left Jakku and are heading to a different planet, though that was to be expected anyway.

And now for a badass moment; the Knights of Ren.

Now I'm Jedi over Sith every time, but c'mon how exciting does this team of highly skilled fighters look?!

Where and who are they hunting?

Remember that scene where X-Wings fly over the water? Well, now we have a bigger perspective of that location, with a battleground on what looks like a former castle or some kind of large, remote building.

Check out the landscape though. Heavily wooded. Kinda like the planet that appears to be destroyed a few scenes back.

Poe and Finn exchange good will gestures with each other in what looks like the calm before the storm. Again, Han and Luke ANH vibes before they set off to destroy the first Death Star.

Now for the scene that threw me off. It looks as if someone took Finn, Rey, Han, BB-8 and a new unknown droid, and placed them in some medieval film.

It looks as if they are walking into some kind of castle, decorated with flags, or at the very least,  coloured scraps of cloth.

Remember Maz Kanata from the beginning of the trailer? From character information that we already have, we know that she owns a castle where travellers and smugglers call home.

It's not out of the question that this is that castle. It gives Maz Kanata a purpose in the film.

Cue badass scene number 2, Captain Phasma walking into battle with a crowd of stormtroopers.

And now for the scene that could spell some heartbreak.

We see Kylo Ren dramatically lift and swing his lightsaber with force. He's not in a heated battle, he clearly has the upper hand, but with who?

Well, we can't confirm who exactly, but we see Rey crying over a body. Whether the individual is hurt or dead is debatable, but take a closer look.

With all the rumours flying around, I was tempted to assume it was Han, but looking closely, a lot of wispy hair appear to outline the character, along with what looks like a studded belt to the right.

Placing my bets now, I think it's Chewbacca, which is understandable as I can't see Peter Mayhew being able to be in another movie.

Funnily enough, the three people in the following scene could all be considered contenders for the character that Rey is crying over.

Now, it looks like they're being captured, what with them putting their hands behind their heads, but as the scene goes on, they slowly start to put them back down. Are they being rescued by someone they thought was the enemy? Are they surprised at something?

Also, note that Chewie has a bandage around his arm. Maybe that is him in the previous scene, but only injured.

Rey with a blaster. No big deal right?

Well, Rey's weapon of choice is her staff (which I'm still counting on it secretly being the lightsaber of Darth Plagueis), so why is she not using it? Does it belong to anyone?

And now for the scene we've all been waiting for!

IT'S A REUNION!

I may have fangirled so hard when I saw this scene, considering all the rumours flying around that Han would die before meeting up with Leia.

But let's go into this. They both look visibly upset, in what appears to be everyone preparing to go into battle.

It's almost over! In the final scene, we see Finn with Anakins old lightsaber that he lost in cloud city.

So. Many. Questions.

How did he get it?

Why is he using it?

In the background, Rey says 'The Force, it's calling you. Just let it in'.

Is this confirmation that Finn is force sensitive?

The scene ends with Finn and an unabashed Kylo Ren going into a duel.

Believe me, I can't wait to see how that battle ends.

That's all I know of so far, but if there's anything you've noticed that I missed, let me know in the comments below! I'd love to know more theories and speculations you have.

As always, thank you so much for reading & may the force be with you!

Lots of Love
