The Jadelist: MAY 16

Hey hey lovely people!

As you could probably tell from the previous post, I'm bulk writing these posts in June after I finally caught my breath post-deadlines

In all honesty, it's been so nice and almost therapeutic to take a couple of hours out today just to listen to some great music and write about it, and I really to love doing this.

Just finding some new tracks to listen to and going on some kind of musical scavenger hunt has been great, but now it's time to share with you what I've found.

So without further ado, here's the May Jadelist:

1.

What If I Go? by Mura Masa

Okay, so discovery-wise, it didn't take much effort to find this song!

One day when I was listening to Spotify, this add came on, and I've gotta say, I wasn't even mad.

What's great about this song is it starts very drum and vocal heavy, pretty cutesy if I might say, but then out of nowhere, the beat drops and completely changes, but here's the special part, it DIDN'T ruin the song

I mean half of the time, adding too much of a remix/techno sound completely ruins a song, but this compliments so much and man I am so happy

Also, after a quick Google, it turns out that Mura Masa is nearly a whole year younger than me and already making great tracks like this, so yeah, just gonna crawl into the corner right now...

2.

Warm Water - Snakehips Remix by Banks

Nope, this isn't some ripped straight from the video song, that party atmosphere is meant to be there.

Usually, having vocals that sound hollow and somewhat tinny would be pretty awful, but this strangely works, almost in a relaxed way.

This was definitely one of my more laid back remix tracks this month.

Also, nice to see Snakehips popping up and around again, considering that they have the midas touch of music for me, in the same way as Kygo!

3.

Sun by Jónsi

This was a funny one for me to put in

I don't think anyone could say that Jónsi creates awful music. His style is so unique, cute and still epic.

So naturally, one day I felt like going on a Jónsi hype and started spiralling into a sea of his tracks, on his own and with Sigur Rós, until I needed more songs, so started branching into the ones I hadn't yet heard.

Now, I'm such a summer freak, so of course the first one I clicked was Sun from the We Bought A Zoo soundtrack.

This track just captures seeing rays of sunlight into music form and ironically, gives me the chills.

4.

Younger - Kygo Remix by Seinabo Sey, Kygo

So Jade, where did you hear this great club track by Kygo? Anywhere exciting? An event?

Well, no. Actually, I heard it in a Skechers shop...

Shout out to Skechers for having some great music in their shops!

But back to the song. The moment I heard it, I was hooked.

It has that great style that I love, which made me think, it has to be Kygo. Low and behold, after a cheeky Shazam in the shop, it was indeed my favourite DJ.

There's something about the music that Kygo creates that embodies this summery vibe whatever time of year you listen to, which is surprising considering he's from Norway, not the first country you think of as being summery

Not to mention that this song is such a good motivator, because you ain't getting any younger, are you?

5.

Quesadilla by WALK THE MOON

That's right, I put a song in Jadelist that's called Quesadilla. I put a song in that's named after a food.

Does the word Quesadilla get mentioned in any of the song lyrics? No.

This song definitely has the typical WALK THE MOON vibe, but probably a bit more upbeat. Is it too much for me to say it has a very 2009 style, when Raybans were the thing and everyone wanted to be a scene kid?

Regardless, I think listening to this song will set you up to have a good day, I mean, nobody can be mad listening to this song. Music therapy people!

6.

LA Calling by Crystal Fighters

Maybe this song is just goals for me?

It sounds summery from the get go, especially with the guitar riff. It's about going to LA, which is definitely a dream of mine, and it's just very upbeat like be.

I'm sorry, did they make this song for me?!

The summery style of songs are definitely strong in this post. Yes, I'm really that excited for summer.

Guitar riff? Check

Great location mentioned in lyrics? Check

Summery vibe? Check

This song passes the official Jade summer song check. Good game everyone

7.

Ocean's Deep by Born Ruffians

Off topic, but as soon as I see Born Ruffians, the first thing I think of is Viva Piñata and the ruffians in the game? Anyone else? Am I too young?

I mean, continuing with names, Born Ruffians and Ocean's Deep just doesn't present the image of a song that sounds pretty upbeat and catchy, so feel surprised when you listen to this song.

When you look into it, the lyrics aren't really all that upbeat, talking about a breakup and the lies involved, but hey, who would notice that when it's hidden with an upbeat rhythm?!

Born Ruffians just have that typical English seaside town vibe, which is strange considering they're from Ontario, Canada.

Need a post-breakup song? Click play!

8.

Some Minds by Flume, Andrew Wyatt

Now, for a change of music style after the vast majority of this month being upbeat, summery style songs.

I wish I could remember where I first heard this song, but it's completely slipped my mind, but I think it's either from an advert or some time where I Shazamed it.

It definitely sticks out like a sore thumb this month, being a bit more ominous, with, can I say a magical backing to it? Like little music specks of light in a dark room? Too visual and pretentious?

But then, as you start to edge towards the end of the song, and unexpected remix cuts in thanks to Flume, another favourite record producer of mine who just seems to be popping up everywhere.

9.

Life Itself by Glass Animals

Okay, no time for judgement but do you want to know where I found this song?

Buzzfeed. That's right, I found this song using a Buzzed quiz, and I'm not even mad.

The intro of this song really gives you a different impression of what the song will be like, until it starts to change about 50 seconds in, bringing much more of a pop vibe.

It's funny because I have barely heard any Adam Lambert songs, but that was the first impression I got from the vocals; very alluring and pop prince style.

Which is completely weird to me, because I've heard Glass Animals before. Their song, Gooey, was definitely a big favourite of mine and my official soundtrack to meteor showers, but I never would have guessed that this track was from the same band.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this song becomes pretty big, I mean it checks those unwritten boxes to become a pop hit, so it's just a matter of waiting and wishing, but I have an inkling this will do very well indeed.

10.

We Two Are a Moon by Sam Beam and Jesca Hoop

Now to end on a cutesy song if I ever did hear one.

I first heard this when I was listening to Radio 6 in the bath. Imagery.

But no, because I was in the bath, I didn't quite catch the artists at first, which lead to a furious drying of hands, rewinding on TuneIn and Googling lyrics.

This song has a nocturnal, romantic, acoustic style that just sounds oh so cute, but also something that reminds me of insomnia.

That's something I love about Radio 6, giving you the opportunity to listen to artists you may have otherwise not encountered, and this is a perfect example of that.

So go ahead and take a listen!

So that's it for this months Jadelist. What song was your favourite? Let me know in the comments below

As always, thank you so much for reading & I hope you have a lovely day

The Jadelist: JAN 16

Hey hey lovely people

Do you know what's a great feeling? Being able to appreciate music again.

Okay, I know I'm sounding melodramatic, but being busy for the majority of January left not much time to kick back and find some new music around, just through simply doing nothing.

Not to mention that my phone broke in January (It lasted three years though, where's my medal at?!), so my usual musical commute was no more.

Does this mean I didn't find anything though? HELL NO!

There's still a couple of fresh faces in the January Jadelist, along with some familiar tracks that are probably already stuck in your head, and if not, I apologise in advance...

So, without further ado, here's the first Jadelist of 2016

1.

The Hook by Flybear

Okay, so the beginning of this song makes me feel like some kind of crazy art genius. So jumbled and

The Jadelist: DEC 15

Hey hey lovely people!

January has been a busy, but spectacular month for me, so blogging has kinda been pushed aside, but I was determined to get this posted before the month ended!

So, December had a great mixture of music (and one song from a soundtrack which I'm not even ashamed of putting in!), with a couple of not well known artists, some nice little throwback tracks, and maybe even a new Christmas track!

So without further ado, here's the the December Jadelist!

1.

Adventure of a Lifetime by Coldplay

Okay, so I first heard this during the AMA's and freaked out.

Believe me, it was a total surprise! I was only watching to see the Star Wars footage!

I was immediately obsessed. Hook. Line. Sinker.

I know people have a tendency to hate anything by Coldplay that was made after 2008 but give 'em a

The Jadelist: NOV 15

Hey hey lovely people!

PANIC! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! 2015 IS NEARLY OVER!

Don't mind me, just casually having an existential crisis over here about how I'm gonna have to start remembering to write 2016 in the date, but inevitably screwing up and putting 2015.

But seriously, where has 2015 gone?! Only one more Jadelist of 2015 left after this!

On that note, here we have the Jadelist for November 2015, which can only be described as basic, predictable and pop packed!

A lot of big names appear this month because damn, there were way too many big catchy songs.

But don't be startled! There's still a few hidden gems within the post that'll hopefully make your day

Let's get on with this!

1.

Afterglow by Big Wild

So, I heard this song at the beginning of the month after going on yet another YouTube music channel rampage (Shout out to TheSoundYouNeed).

After spending way too much time listening to all their fab songs, I came across this little lovely number and was floored!

I'll be straight up, 9 times out of 10, lyrics in a song don't matter to me at all, but if you have an

The Jadelist: AUG 15

Hey hey lovely people!

Jadelist is back for the month of August, and we're being a bit cheeky this time!

Honestly, there was so much great music this month that I literally struggled to get it down to 10 songs, so, considering that it's by birth month, an extra song is totally allowed, right?

This month is very upbeat, and dare I say, basic!

Without further ado, here's August's Jadelist:

1.

Fire by TheBalcony

Okay, I'm just gonna come out with it; This song is sung by a Viner. Should that influence whether you like this track or not? HELL NO!!

So you've probably seen Kenny Holland singing in a few Vines around the Internet. Well, him and Wesley Stromberg of Emblem3 have teamed up to create TheBalCOny, and have just released their first single, Fire.

I'm not much into Vine, but one day, I happened to be scrolling through the app and a clip with this song was featured.

Not to be that basic girl, but I honestly love so many songs that I hear in Vines, so naturally, I decided to look it up and BAM! It was Fire (Literally!)

It's got that be achy vibe to it, so if you're into the kind of songs that you'd hear if you were in Hollister, then this song is for you!

2.

Amplified by Watsky ft. Rafael Casal

So, being the news and YouTube junkie that I am, it's only natural that I'm subscribed to SourceFed, right?

Well, if you're subscribed to them too, you'll know by know that the layout and presenters have

The Jadelist: JUL 15

Hey hey lovely people!

The month of August (a.k.a, my birthday month) is finally upon us, which means another edition of The Jadelist is ready and waiting.

This month definitely features a pretty diverse mixture of music, from dance to folk, with the oldest track being from 1968! Take that, 47 years of music!

So without further ado, let's get into this:

1.

Hey Hey by BYNON & BISHØP

So first up, we have Hey Hey by BYNON and BISHØP.

After a quick little Wiki search, I found out that the family of BYNON, real name Richard Glenmor Beynon, are actually from South Wales! #Represent, my fellow Welshie!

This track is one of those relaxed dance songs (which is apparently is the 'in' thing right now. I'm down!) that just pulls you in and makes you click replay and unholy amount of times.

I need to start taking notes down or something because I can never remember where I find half of my songs. I'm gonna guess and say I heard it as a backing track to a Vine or something.

Either way, enjoy what was my favourite find of the month of July.

2.

Sometimes by Break ft Hilton

Yes, that does say Hilton. Like Paris Hilton, the heiress and Socialite.

This track does not feature Paris Hilton.

No, Hilton is actually a producer and, as far as I know, not a socialite or heiress, though I did initially

The Jadelist: JUN 15

Hey hey lovely people!

Another month is over and I'm back with the June edition of The Jadelist

There's a lot of acoustic, happy and folksy types of music this month, with some new artists and, of course, some of my all time favourites.

Let's get into this!

1.

Nothing Arrived by The Villagers

First, let me point out that this isn't the original version of the song. Though the original is still great, it simply cannot compare to the live acoustic session at Spotify.

I'm guessing that I first heard this on a Spotify Ad. Either way, I fell in love with it after hearing just the first five seconds.

It's so simplistic, with just guitar and vocals, and I think that's what makes it great.

2.

I'll Do Better by Jarrod Gorbel

Obligatory One Tree Hill song, my old friend.

Honestly, I don't mean to do this. I really just have a ton of OTH songs on my regular playlist that I

The Jadelist: MAY 15

Hey hey lovely people!

The busy month of May is finally over!

Though it was pretty hectic, don't be fooled that I didn't have time to create a new Jadelist!

So here's this month's Jadelist. Let's get into this:

1.

Rendez Vous by La Plage

This. Song.

I'm trying so hard to remember where I first heard this song, but no luck so far.

According to my main Spotify playlist, I added it on the last day of 2014, so I've known it for a short while, but i've suddenly become obsessed with it again.

Not too sure what I'd call this style of music, but it sure as hell is catchy.

Make sure you listen to the end portion, when all that's left is some lyrics, a piano and a lovely guitar rhythm!

2.

Really Love by D'Angelo

Seriously, I have no clue where I keep finding these songs.

They're not in my Shazam tags and I can't find any information on them being in a TV show. (Let's be

The Jadelist: APR 15

Hey hey lovely people!

Now, I've been thinking about doing this for a while, and now that I have a bit more free time, I've finally got around to doing it.

Okay, so at the end of each month, I'm gonna be posting The Jadelist: a 10 song playlist of songs that I've been loving in the past month.

To make things easier for you all, I'm gonna create each playlist on Spotify and leave the link for it at the end of each post.

Each post will have a varied music selection which will very much likely not go together at all!

There's only one rule: Listen to each song until the chorus before you dismiss it.

So without further ado, here's the Jadelist for April 2015:

1.

Slo Mo Tiger Glo by Fiona Bevan

Without a doubt, this has been my favourite song of the month, which I surprisingly first heard on a TV advert.

Fiona's voice is so unique and beautiful, plus I can't resist a song with a ukulele!

Seriously though, how does this video only have just over 1000 views?! Someone make this girl No.1  right now!

2.

Goodbye by Who Is Fancy

I have the TuneIn radio app to thank for finding this lovely little song.

As soon as this song is released in the UK, I think it has potential to be number, or at least a top 10 hit.

The music video is definitely a lot more captivating than the typical 'Ooh, look! I'm having a party' music videos that are all too common these days.

3.

Post To Be by Omarion, Chris Brown and Jhené Aiko

Disclaimer, this song is not limited to groceries.

Honestly though, I've been a fan of Jhené for a while, and this song does have a really catchy beat that will stay in your head for days.

Plus, nice to see Omarion around. Last song I can remember from him was Icebox. Nostalgia time!

Though, my inner grammar nazi does scream out. Supposed to be*.

4.

My Silver Lining by First Aid Kit

Now, this song was kind of a random find for me.

Lately, I've become a bit obsessed with country style music, and while on a little YouTube spree on one of my favourite bands, The Common Linnets, I heard them perform this song

Little did I know that it was a cover.

It looks like I have a thing for European Country Music, considering The Common Linnets are from The Netherlands, and First Aid Kit are from Sweden.

Now it forever holds a special place in my heart as the first song I learnt on guitar.

5.

The Girl by City and Colour

First up, let's clarify why this is in The Jadelist.

I've loved this song for about three or four years now, ever since I heard City and Colour perform a live version of this on One Tree Hill (That Valentines Day ep though!).

Yeah, I've somehow gone all this time without hearing the actual studio version, and I'm OBSESSED!

Initially, it sounds pretty similar to the acoustic version, until it hits 2.18, when the pace picks up.

A beautiful song, by a very talented artist, who surprisingly used to be in a post-hardcore band!

6.

Aftertaste by Ben Lee

Surprise surprise, there's somewhat of a One Tree Hill theme in this Jadelist. I may or may not be rewatching the series.

Either way, have you ever heard anybody say that the music in One Tree Hill is awful? No, because it's not!

This song is pretty laid back and just reminds me of a lazy summer day in a pretty empty place. Too deep? Okay.

7.

Five Years Time by Noah And The Whale

What a lovely song that I've just gotten back into.

Now, I'm sure you've already heard this song way too many times, but it's popped into my playlist again recently.

I'm not sure why I started listening to it again, but it's been a favourite of mine to play on the ukulele lately.

8.

No Envy, No Fear by Joshua Radin

Okay, so Joshua Radin may be a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm still to find a song of his that I don't like.

Following with the OTH theme, I found this song somewhere in season 6. Now, I physically can't stop listening to it.

It's an addiction.

9.

Once When I Was Little by James Morrison

Whoah, a song that's from One Tree Hill?! No way Jade! That's such a shocker!

I can't help it, One Tree Hill did use a hell of a lot of great tracks, including this one.

First up, I need to state that I get James Morrison and Chris Martin confused way too often!

I love how it starts off pretty calm but changes when it gets to the chorus, and I hope that you will too!

10.

Got It by Marian Hill

Lastly, this is kind of a wild card pick, considering the majority of these songs have been pretty acoustic guitar heavy.

This song is pretty simple when you think of it, but damn, it's way too catchy.

Marian's voice is just pure perfection, and I have a feeling that she's gonna be a big name to watch this year.

Either way, she's got it!

So, that was it for the first ever Jadelist! Let me know what you thought of it in the comments below!

Question of the post: What has been your favourite song this month?

As always, thank you so much for reading & I hope you have a lovely day!

Blogmas Day 12: My Year In Music

Hey hey lovely people!

So, I'm an avid spotify user, so much so that I'm actually using spotify right now (Currently playing Carla Bruni - L'Amour, for those of you who are interested!)

Now, spotify have recently been playing their Year In Music advertisement, so I took it upon myself to find out how 2014 was like for Jade Bloggs in music.

Let's dive in!

First up are genres! Looks like I'm just a pop addict, though I was surprised about dance pop being second! Either way, my cheesy self is definitely showing through here!

Next up were my top 5 artists. You guys really should've seen the look of horror on my face when it turned out to be Kanye West! Seriously, I don't know how this even happened! I can't remember the last time I listened to Kanye. I personally blame it on my late love of 'Yeezus'.

Okay, so RuPaul being second, I completely blame that on mine and my friend Dally's sassy car rides, including lip syncing for our lives and fabulously synced hair flips. I shall leave it at that!

I honestly wish that Air Dubai were higher on the list! If you haven't heard them yet, they're a fab band from Colorado that released their album, Be Calm, earlier this year. Seriously, check them out, 100% recommended!

How can I have a year where Lana Del Rey doesn't appear in my top lists? My favourite from Lana this year has to be 'Florida Kilos', check it out!

Again, surprised to see Jay Z up here too! I'm personally blaming the 'Ye and Jay placings from them having a lot of songs that I'd listen do, rather than frequency of a song. I'm typically not someone who listens to whole albums, but great songs from a huge number of artists.

Now, for  my top 5 albums of 2014.

I'm not ashamed to say that Eurovision 2014 is my number one most played album of the year, though you should feel ashamed for me!

RuPaul, again, too much sass going on for me!

Can I just note that Air Dubai and Be Calm have both appeared 3rd, which coincidentally, is my favourite number! Favourite number, favourite band, just saying!

Four and Five, yeah, I have no excuses, my inner ghetto gal is beginning to seep through!

At last, my top 10 most played tracks.

HOW ON EARTH IS TIMBER NUMBER ONE?! Don't get me wrong, I did like Timber, but number one?! Brb, off to hide in my corner of shame.

Two, three and four will all bring out your inner sass queen. I suggest you listen.

Ah, number five, the last place selection from Eurovision 2014, need I explain any more about how cheesy I am?!

Finally, a chance to redeem myself! Number six is in fact my favourite song of all time and I cannot suggest to you enough that you listen to it. It's b-e-a-utiful!

Seven and Eight, more Ru, more sass.

Nine was a great find of mine for 2014. Jhené Aiko is a great artist who you all need to listen to. Coincidentally, I'm listening to her right now on Big Sean's track 'Beware'. Imagine my freaked out face when this track plays straight after it!

Finally, 10 was a big song for 2014 (and a gym favourite of mine), so you can't judge me on that!

This explains why I can't remember my Kanye 'obsession'. Looks like it in early 2014.

I'm so happy to see Air Dubai as my summer favourites because Be Calm was definitely my sound of the summer, especially their track 'Coasts'.

Now, here's what confuses me. Capital Cities are listed as my favourites for Autumn, yet I only listened to one of their songs (Farrah Fawcett hair), yet they don't make an appearance in my top 10. Seriously, to say I overplayed that track would be a complete understatement. I was expecting it to be number one in all honesty.

16, 501 minutes. Let's break this down then. Hypothetically, each song lasts 3 minutes, and their are 365 days in the year. According to this, I listen to 15 songs a day. Seriously, I'm sure that I've been on offline mode for a long time or something. I'd say that I listen to at least 2 hours of spotify each day.

Finally, my busiest day for music is Thursday, which is also my day off uni!

So, spotify gives to the options to have your top 100 tracks of 2014 created into a playlist. To check this out, follow me on spotify (Jade Molumby) and subscribe to my Top 100 playlist. I've pasted them below, just as an attempt to redeem myself!

Blogmas Day 8 - The Sweater Weather Tag

Hey hey lovely people!

Now, I know that sweater weather technically refers to Autumn, but here in the UK, I think we've gotten away with being able to wear casual clothes until the start of December, when it became bitterly cold.

Therefore, I'm giving myself the approval to do the Sweater Weather tag, of course, slightly adapted because it's now Winter.

Enjoy!

1. Favourite candle scent?

At the moment, though it's not necessarily a candle, my favourite candle scent is Blonde Moment by WickNWax. Seriously, it smells so good, so much so that I may be melting it right now. It's a mixture of champagne, raspberries and strawberries!

But, if we're strictly talking about A/W scents, then it HAS to be spiced apple.YUM!

2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?

Hot chocolate, of course! Specifically, a Costa white hot chocolate.

3. What's the best fall memory you have?

Hmm, this is a difficult one. Not so much a specific memory, but going to my local park and taking photos of squirrels in all the golden oranges of Autumn. It just looks beautiful.

4. Which makeup trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged eyeliner?

BOTH! Seriously, I refuse to choose. Combination please!

5. Best fragrance for fall?

Hmm, well, I don't really have a specific fall scent, but since I'm doing this in December, I'm going to call it A/W, in which case, it would be Chloé.

When I first bought Chloé, it was on my way to Paris in December, so it always reminds me of that. Is it sad that I'm getting upset about not being in Paris right now?

6. Favourite Thanksgiving food?

See, I wish the UK would adopt thanksgiving, purely for the excuse to eat a load of food! Now, the closest we get to Thanksgiving is Christmas, in which case, I'd say it's between roast potatoes and pigs in blankets. Mmm!

7. What is autumn weather like where you live?

Well, Autumn in Wales is just pretty neutral. The weather doesn't become bitterly cold until December kicks in.

Autumn here is just kinda cloudy. I don't even think it rained that much too.

8. Most worn sweater?

Easy. Old school, but my grey 3/4 sleeved Hollister jumper with a giant blue H, which I personally think resembles the Hufflepuff logo. Plus, it looks great with a shirt underneath.

9. Must-have nail polish this fall?

Barry M's Gelly Nail Paint in Paprika, with a matte coat on top. It reminds me of tan upholstery, which I'm pretty obsessed with!

10. Football games or jumping in leaf piles?

Jumping in piles of leaves.

11. Skinny jeans or leggings?

Skinny jeans. They're so much warmer!

12. Combat boots or Uggs?

Combat boots. I have narrow feet, so wearing Uggs makes me walk like a penguin, way too much room.

13. Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?

Honestly, I couldn't tell you. I haven't tried a PSL, though, I do like pumpkin.

14. Favorite fall TV show?

Fall TV Show?! Really! Well, this Autumn, I've been loving American Horror Story, and I guess it relates to Halloween so technically...

15. What song really gets you into the fall spirit?

I don't really have an Autumn song. I guess anything my Haim, they just seem more Autumnal.

WAIT! NO! Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood.

So, that's the Sweater Weather tag.
